“Crow and Raven: Three Short Fables” was an in-game book found in the video game titled The Elder Scrolls Online. It is a series of morals, presented through the viewpoint of Crow and Raven. The two animals are constantly bugging each other through the tales and they are very funny and also educational.

The author of the lorebook is unknown. The text can also be found on external websites, such as the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages.

https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Crow_and_Raven:_Three_Short_Fables

I decided to translate this lorebook, because I found it funny and cute. Maybe some other people will find it enjoyable now that they can read it in Hungarian.

My main motivation regarding translations is that I want to bring the joy of reading, watching or playing different stories to others, because not everyone can speak foreign languages (or one particular language) very well.

My translation is not commercial in anyway, shape or form! All rights to the original story reserved for ZeniMax Media Incorporated.

I have the honour to announce that thanks to eLeR Creative Studio, the 1.3 version of The Witcher – Entrapped has been released, including the Hungarian version of the module, which was directly translated from Polish by me! (Download links in the description!)

It was an honour to work with the great team of eLeR Creative once again, this time on a very intriguing project.

Allow me to summarize the background of the adventure. Entrapped was written and created by Adam “Fantasta” Dukszto in 2009 for a competition announced by CD Projekt Red. The adventure proved to be a great success and soon became one of the players’ favourite adventures. The module works with interesting solutions and proves to be interesting throughout the entire story. This might be the reason why it received its first dubbing and music around 2012/2013. However, the possibilities at the time were not very favourable towards the adventure in this respect, and many players criticized Geralt for his voice. Now, however, thanks to the eLeR Creative Studio, the adventure has been enriched with a new Polish dubbing, made by professional and dedicated voice-actors. In the role of Geralt is Adam Żejmo, who is already well known and loved from Masquerade.

The adventure is rather short, but more complicated in terms of story, which can be replayed multiple times and in many different ways. Geralt drops right in the middle of a dangerous investigation, longing for nothing more than to finally rest after a long journey. And to quote Fantasta’s own words:

“In the beginning, there was chaos. My first thought was too bold to be carried out. It was supposed to be a post-apocalyptic game, not having much in common with The Witcher: radioactive fallout, a desolate world, with a lonely hero traversing between deserted settlements; the toxicity bar was meant to indicate radiation sickness, and the storyline would change with each new game and each player interaction. However, this idea had to be abandoned and I had to focus on creating something that had a greater chance of implementation, in other words, an adventure using the interface, the already available models and locations from The Witcher. So the radiation turned into acid rain – an area spell, which trapped everyone who arrived in the village at the wrong time. The second, important story element that starts the entire quest is finding the innkeeper’s body. The third important element is the disappearance of the villagers. Geralt is entrapped, he has to escape, and find answers to the questions of who killed the innkeeper and where the villagers are; these are the hinges on which the whole plot is held. Additionally, the player unfolds the story of Andre and the women from the inn one after another.”

The gameplay tries to take advantage of The Witcher’s strengths and mechanics. We can go through the story in several ways, encountering different combat and skill mechanics during the given journeys. However, Fantasta placed great emphasis on very intriguing investigation and clever puzzles. My humble recommendation is that everything is worth reading very carefully, because the answers, even if very tricky, are there in front of our eyes. The adventure carefully builds the atmosphere, everything has its place and time. With this, the story manages to be successfully serious and funny in the right moments. Anyone with a keen eye will notice that the work deals with very serious themes that would simply fit into the theatre concerning society. However, there are also exciting fights and a few more comical side missions for players to immerse themselves into the story and the world.

There is one more interesting detail that I would like to share with you: the plot of the side-quest within the city is loosely based on Fantasta’s amateur film titled Czy można z powrotem do czerni i bieli? (Alternative English title: Back to Black and White, Please?) made in 2001. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/Hcr7bNrg5IU

Dear witcher fans,

fortunately, I had the opportunity to help with Project Mersey, which is a great collection of several fixes for The Witcher – Enhanced Edition. My dear colleague Grandvel – who worked on the Russian localization and the correction of some Polish lines – drew my attention to this modification, because some lines were missing proper Hungarian translation.

The author of the mod, who goes under the nickname of Mersey Rockoff, created these fixes for the first witcher game. There are several lines of journal entries and other cut content, which was removed by CD Projekt Red due to bugs or lack of time. The author of the mod put a lot of time and effort to carefully restore these cut content and implement them into the game world. As a result, the first witcher game is even richer and extended with little details that give more life to it. My part in this project was to write the proper translation of some restored lines that were missing in Hungarian.

At the moment of the writing of this blog post – Project Mersey had over 80 bug fixes, restored content and quality of life updates – all carefully implemented into The Witcher Enhanced Edition. I can wholeheartedly recommend the using of this modification.

Big shout out to the mod author – Project Mersey can be downloaded from this link:

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher/mods/941

Mersey also makes fixes for The Witcher 2 & 3. He restored several other cut content for these games too, so if you are playing any of the witcher games, check out his profile.

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher/users/56064207

Grandvel, I would like to say thank you for bringing my attention to this nice modification. Also, congratulations on the Russian and Polish part. Grandvel helped me to get into contact with the author and transferred my lines to Mersey. We worked together on the Masquerade and currently we are working on the new version of the Entrapped. He made several translations for other modifications for The Witcher 3 too, so be sure to check out his site.

Dear Witcher fans, it is a great honour to announce that the beloved The Witcher – Farewell of the White Wolf will be receiving a new update in the near future. For the past year, we have worked tirelessly to finally create the Enhanced Edition of this great story, which it has always deserved.

Perhaps, the most important thing for the Hungarian audience is that for them the new version of the full conversion mode will be published under the title: A Witcher – A Fehér Farkas búcsúja. During the translation process, I used the original Polish version to form the basis of the Hungarian text. Therefore, for those who could only play with the English version, the Hungarian version will have some surprises in the pocket.

The update will contain a lot of new stuff for fans. Lately, this great team has been working to cast this last adventure of Geralt, which has proved to be a worthy conclusion to his story, into a shape it has always deserved. The Enhanced Edition will be enriched with new gameplay and dialogues, designed to smooth all threads, while the team aims to give players a more complete and enjoyable experience. Thanks to the expanded content, players will be given more choices for several quests, and as a result of the decisions players may make, the new content can mean 30 minutes of new gameplay.

In addition, work has been going on with the Polish voice-over since May this year, created by talented fans and professional actors. The dubbing is provided by the eLeR Creative group in collaboration with the FotWW team. In the role of Geralt, Adam Żejmo will return, who has excellent talent and has already excelled in the role of the Witcher in The Witcher – Masquerade, among other projects. The creators originally did not plan to create dubbing for the game, but they were convinced by the hard work of the eLeR Creative group. (I will provide links to these videos below.) This great project has resulted in the collaboration of two excellent teams that have allowed several professional and enthusiastic actors to try their voice in the world of The Witcher.

For the time being, I cannot provide you with any specific date regarding the release of the new update, because works on the Polish voice-over and the Enhanced Edition is still in progress. On the other hand, I can assure you all that we do not want to release an unfinished piece of art. So, we aim to polish and work on it for as long as we are a hundred percent sure of it.

It is a great pleasure and an honour for me to work with these two great teams! Cheers!

I can proudly announce that thanks to eLeR Creative Studio, the 1.2 version of Witcher – Masquerade has been released, including the Hungarian version of the module, which was written and translated by me! (Download links below!)

It was an honour to work with such an amazing team on such an exciting project !

I would like to say a few words about the history of the module:

The project was started by Ifrit Creative Group sometime around 2008. Although, the creation of the module was pushed into the background and almost faded into the shadows. However, now that the fifth anniversary of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt and the thirteenth anniversary of The Witcher have arrived, eLeR Creative Studio has decided to not let this treasure fade away and finish what they started back in 2008.

Ifrit is also well known for the stories of “The Wedding” and “Merry Witchmas,” which CD Projekt officially released as part of The Witcher Enhanced Edition as free adventure modules. This later gave some of them the opportunity to work with the makers of The Withcer. However, after a few grim events, the group first paused its work and then later disbanded. After a couple of silent years, Łukasz “eLeR” Rębisz founded the eLeR Creative Studio with the remaining members and some new recruits, with the goal of completing unfinished projects, also upgrading and providing voice acting to existing old ones.

Thanks to eLeR Creative and the support of CD Projekt Red, this almost-official module could finally be completed and released.

Some words about the story:

This adventure module is created for the The Witcher Enhanced Edition. It takes place after the events of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt and Blood and Wine.

The story begins in 1277, when our beloved monster hunter, the witcher, Geralt of Rivia arrives in the Outskirts of Vizima. Here he takes on a very mundane job regarding a basement of a house that is being haunted by a ghost. This is the beginning of our hero’s strange journey, deep into the rabbit hole. Very strange events are taking place within the Outskirts. A large merchant caravan has just arrived in the village and one of its member was murdered. The case is very complicated and everyone is blaming a certain Doppler. There are plenty of threads and the city guard is not able to round up the case on their own, they need a professional. That’s when Geralt comes into the picture. However, the Outskirts has other mysteries in store for us, as well as a few unexpected twists.

The module of course is free and is available on the websites linked below.

The gameplay:

Players can once again jump into the role of Geralt of Rivia for an adventure or two, whose head is buzzing from this nasty affair. The gameplay of Masquerade focuses mostly on investigation and puzzles that also form the core of the story. Fighting is mostly optional, but present to provide a challenge for those who seek it.

Naturally, the adventure has several endings and they are all of excellent quality, because the creators put their hearts and souls into it. The module contains well-written texts and quests. In addition, a quality Polish dubbing was also created for the adventure. Furthermore, Mantrio has written some unique pieces of music exclusively for Masquerade, which gives a unique atmosphere to the Outskirts and rhymes with the story.

In addition, a strong emphasis was placed on the decisions that the players have to make during the adventure. Therefore, the module has two very different paths, almost opposite to each other. And besides this, a total of eight endings can be reached through several interesting ways.

The story has been constructed very carefully in order to stay faithful to the world of the Witcher in every way. Regarding the Outskirts, the creators paid particular attention to ensure that it still reflects, but gives a different experience than the same area of the original game. Similarly, the monsters appearing in the module also received special treatment as the creators sought to ensure a coherent experience.

Dialogues and other texts within the adventure are of excellent quality, not flat, sometimes very humorous. The creators put their hearts and souls into it. Additionally, a short story from the pen of Fantasta is included inside the module, which tells an unknown chapter from Geralt’s story. The dear audience can read this novella in one of the merchants’ private library. Not to mention, it is worth visiting the houses around the market, where other secrets may be hidden. In addition, there are a number of side quests in the Outskirts and its surrounding areas that fit into the world and most of them are in some way connected to the main narrative.

If I had to summarize this adventure module in one sentence: The team managed to bring the Outskirts of Vizima back to life.

A few words about the group and the process of the translation:

When I submitted my application to eLeR, that I would like to translate the module into Hungarian, I would not have thought that they will accept me. Since then, I have been a full member of the team and we have worked, and are working together on several other projects.

I had the honour of working with excellent programmers, writers and actors. In a very supportive and kind community. The actors were all dedicated. Writers and programmers have written and built the world with devotion, based on the works of Andrzej Sapkowski. Everyone put their heart and soul into this project. They were supportive throughout and helped me to improve my Polish a bit as well. Thanks to them, I can now mostly read and write fluently, although I must admit I still have a lot to improve.

All in all, translating the module was not an easy job, as there are plenty of thousands and even hundreds of thousands of lines of text. Geralt alone has more than fifteen thousand lines. I spent about four months and kept making sure I could convey the true value that this work of art represents.

I translated the module directly from Polish to avoid any possibility of losing values because of translation. However, when I applied I did so with English in mind. At the time, my Polish was nearly non-existent. Therefore, I started to work with the English translation. However, both Fantasta and eLeR suggested that it would be even better if I take a look at the original Polish text. And they were right! I realised that I need to quickly get myself to learn Polish and work harder to achieve a better understanding of the source-material. Not to mention, I realised that certain little things that otherwise could add to the experience will be lost in translation if I use the English version. Although, it would have been simpler, but I still wanted to publish quality work, because I think this story deserves to be as complete as possible in front of the Hungarian audience.

While working on individual characters, I paid attention to the character’s vocabulary, mettles and flaws, and also mood. Since the Hungarian dubbing will probably not be made, I tried to use the text to show the style, the pitch and the tone, or even the features of each character. I also gave several of them different dialects.

Additionally, when I had to work with one character at a time, I always tried to capture and feel their state of mind or even their inner thoughts. I completely tried to give myself to the characters, like I placed myself in their situation, tried to figure out how they would act, and how that would result. For example, how one character would speak, what language one would use. If they had a “mask” on, then would they drop it? Or are they strong willed enough to maintain this masquerade? All this can be conveyed through using simple, yet correct words. And if a person pays attention, one can recognise these little things that betray the true intention of a character. Moreover, this way I was able to keep the life and soul inside the characters that their creators had given them.

In addition, I tried to make sure that the text was as authentic as possible. A simple example of this is the Hungarian word “magyaráz” (which means explain in English, however, it’s base is the word “magyar” that means Hungarian), which seems meaningless in the world of the Witcher, as there is no such people and this word could not have evolved – so I always replaced it with a nice synonym that suits the given situation due to the beauty of the Hungarian language. In the case of swearing (of which I have to note that there are several), I used the same technique, because many of our swearing words are of religious origin or have a meaning that is not present within the given world.

However, for a project of this size, a few errors may sometimes slip through the fingers. No matter how hard I tried, there were a few sentences or spellings that had to be corrected or completely rewritten afterwards, because within the context of the game, the given text gained a completely different meaning. Once again, I would like to thank my colleague Fantasta for his patience, who carefully implemented my minor corrections and text changes.

Acknowledgements:

Our thanks to everyone involved in this, one of the longest projects for The Witcher. After almost twelve years our adventure has come to an end.

Thank you for reading through this little post of mine! I hope you got interested in the story! Though, I would not like to say anything more, because I do not want to spoil anything!

Have fun!

My Beloved! I sough, to the blue poison of your loving fondling,
While kept, remembering amidst the prison of this terrible reflection.
Ah! may it be your heart, which has suffered so much from affection,
Maybe I am afraid, because ravaged by grief I will be, still pondering.

My Beloved, and what are you guilty of, that your eyes’ hollow things
Are so burning, and that your lips curl and laugh so nicely?
You trusted too much in my virtue, too much in your own vitality,
However the Creator poured too much fire into our beings.

While I was working on the Hungarian translation of the Witcher: The Wedding premium module, I found a little poem, which is recited by Aldus, also most likely the author of it, during the wedding of Geralt and Triss. Aldus’ character is an aspiring poet, with good intentions, but he still has much to learn regarding poetry. However, his poem conveys some important messages. Since, it is not a very long piece, but a very beautiful one, I have decided to share it with you.
However, the original Polish nor the English versions are not my work, so unfortunately, I will not be able to share them with you, dear reader. But I can point you towards the sources and the original texts.

The Wedding premium module is already available in English and Polish. Later this year (2021) it will get an update, with the Hungarian translation written by me, and with a full Polish dubbing. This wonderful project is made possible by Ifrit and eLeR Creative. (eLeR Creative is responsible for the update and the Polish voice-over.)

Ifrit created the original module, which was then featured in the Enhanced Edition of The Witcher. So you do not have to download it from an external site. However, I provided every official links, to give credit for the original writers of the poem and the story.

Personally, I loved the story and this little fun gameplay. I laughed a lot both while playing and while translating it. Also, working on it was a wonderful experience.
Hope you will like it! Enjoy!

You can find the Hungarian version here:
https://alexanderwolfwritings.com/hu/aldus-verse/

However, the English translation is not written by me, so I cannot share it with you on my site, but you can found it on the links below. Although, I can provide to you the Hungarian version, which I translated from Polish for you. The whole story is written with heart and remains true to the soul of the Witcher Saga.

I got the permission form “eLeR” and “Fantasta” to share my Hungarian translation of this little novella with you, so here you go: https://alexanderwolfwritings.com/hu/az-evszazad-kuzdelme/

I aim this to be a little tease for those who are interested in the world of the Witcher, and urge them to try The Witcher: Masquerade premium module. It is created with great care and you will not be disappointed. The whole module is voiced by Polish voice actors. It is a finely crafted story with multiple endings. A mystery to solve.

My first projects in translation.
Mods for The Witcher III: Wild Hunt
-Devil's Pit
-Shields and Robes

These two mods were the first projects I was working on. I wanted to help the authors to implement their mods fully into The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, so I decided to translate them into Hungarian.

The Devil’s Pit:

Devil’s Pit was the mod that started me on this path of translating. It was my first project. Although, it was not some giant mod or a complete DLC, however, it was something that I enjoyed working on with SkacikPL. Also, I even did the testing for the mod.

Devil’s Pit is a mod for The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. The author is a very talented modder. In addition, Skacik restored several cut content from the game. Such as an unimplemented dungeon, a boss fight and two important NPCs.

“Opens the unused Devil’s Pit caverns for exploration along with adding over 21 new items into the base game, 6 interactive objects, 4 new NPCs including a companion and fully featured stealth mechanics.”

The mod even adds Iorveth and Saskia to The Witcher III, while giving some background to them too. Furthermore, this flashes out the their characters and ties them to the current events, while providing an explanation about their fate after the events of The Witcher II: Assassins of Kings.

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2562/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fwitcher3%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D2562&pUp=1

Shields and Robes:

Shields and Robes was my second project regarding translation of mods.

Shields and Robes is a modification for The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. This mod adds usable shields, robes and many more items to the game. Made by ScoutBr0, a talented author. The shields and other trinkets added to the game extends the tools of Geralt, which can be combined with other skills. Therefore, adding new ways to play the game. Most prominently, by allowing Geralt to use a shield.
